Just a Little About D.F.W. Sams
Our chapter was formed January 16, 1993. We are active in the Good Sam Club and Texas Good Sam Chapters. There are approximately 175 active chapters in Texas that are divided up into 17 areas. A State Director and a large statewide staff currently head our state organization. All state officers and staff members are volunteers. There are no salaried positions. Each area, within the state, has an Assistant Director to provide local support to the chapters. We are in Area 13.
Our members come from throughout the DFW Metroplex and nearby cities. In order to keep everyone informed, in addition to our WEB site, the minutes from our monthly camp out/business meetings are distributed and a bi-monthly newsletter containing information about club events and activities is published. Information concerning Area and State events are included and members are encouraged to attend those when possible. Officers in the D.F.W. Sam Chapter serve one-year terms. D.F.W. Sam members are mostly over 55 years old and the majority are retired or near retirement. Younger members are welcome and encouraged to join us. We presently have over 30 couples and a few singles. Our members have a variety of rigs including Class A, B & C motor homes, travel trailers and fifth wheels. We have camp outs monthly from Thursday to Sunday. Many members come on Wednesday to have more time for fellowship and fun. Our camp outs consist of dining out as a group, card and domino games, group games, a short business meeting, potluck dinners and a Sunday devotional. We tour local places of interest, shop, attend entertainment functions and local festivals. No alcohol or smoking is allowed inside our meeting rooms. Our regular camp outs are normally within a 150 mile radius of the Metroplex. Once or twice a year, we will take a longer trip to some place interesting. We have attended festivals in Louisiana, toured Fredericksburg, Brenham and the Hill Country area.
